Job Description

We are a well-established and growing civil construction firm seeking a skilled and driven Estimator / Project Manager to join our Birmingham, AL team. This is a full-time, onsite role (Monday–Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM) offering a competitive salary range of $75,000–$110,000/year and significant opportunities for career advancement.

In this dual-role position, you’ll be instrumental in both the preconstruction and execution phases of infrastructure and site development projects. You’ll lead estimating efforts for a variety of civil scopes—including earthwork, utilities, asphalt paving, and concrete—and manage projects from kickoff through closeout, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bid Preparation & Analysis
  • Review bid documents including plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports
  • Perform detailed takeoffs for civil scopes: earthwork, utilities, asphalt, concrete, etc.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and bid openings
  • Collaborate with leadership to assess market conditions and bid strategies
  • Project Management
  • Lead project startup meetings and coordinate with field operations
  • Develop and maintain project schedules
  • Serve as the primary liaison for owners, engineers, and architects
  • Manage change orders, bonding, and cost tracking throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitor monthly estimates and ensure timely invoicing and receivables
  • Maintain project documentation and reporting systems

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management , Civil Engineering , or related field (preferred but not required)
  • Proven experience in civil construction estimating and/or project management
  • Strong understanding of construction documents and specifications
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Effective communicator with strong written and verbal skills
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and team collaboration
  • Proficiency in construction software such as HCSS , Bluebeam , Vista , Microsoft Excel , Word , and Project
  • Positive attitude and a strong desire to learn and grow professionally
