The Materials Science Engineer - Materials & Process Expert will lead, and support research, development and production activities focused on advanced materials for defense and undersea applications. This individual will apply expertise in chemicals, materials processes and characterization to solve complex technical challenges and ensure high-performance materials solutions for DoD customers.

Our teams engineer advanced systems and materials that operate reliably in the world's most demanding environments. We are currently seeking a Chemical or Materials Engineer with a ceramics and materials science background to join our growing materials engineering group supporting next-generation naval systems.

Key Responsibilities
    \n
  • Lead materials selection , testing and implementation. Responsible on optimization efforts for ceramics, composites, and coatings used in maritime defense systems.
  • \n
  • Conduct root cause analysis and failure investigations for material and process issues.
  • \n
  • Perform laboratory and analytical testing; interpret and report data with scientific rigor.
  • \n
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to scale materials from concept to production.
  • \n
  • Support DoD program requirements , technical documentation, and secure project execution.
  • \n
  • Develop technical reports, proposals, and presentations for internal and customer stakeholders.
  • \n
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and related tools for documentation, analysis, and project management.
  • \n
  • Travel up to 15% for supplier engagement, testing activities, and program reviews.
  • \n

Required Qualifications
    \n
  • \n Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering .
  • \n
  • \n 10+ years of experience in materials, manufacturing processes, potting materials/process of ceramics and chemical/primers used to improve bonding.
  • \n
  • Hands-on experience with ceramic materials , composites, or coatings (processing, sintering, or characterization).
  • \n
  • Proven ability to perform root cause analysis , materials failure assessments, and data-driven decision-making.
  • \n
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
  • \n
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to prepare detailed technical documentation.
  • \n
  • \n U.S. citizenship required; must be eligible for a DoD Security Clearance .
  • \n

Preferred Qualifications
    \n
  • Experience supporting DoD, Navy, or defense-related R&D programs .
  • \n
  • Familiarity with materials testing and characterization (SEM, EDS, XRD, DSC, etc.).
  • \n
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • \n
  • Experience with product life cycle systems
  • \n
  • Background in chemical process scale-up or pilot-scale materials development .
  • \n
  • Strong analytical and research skills with an emphasis on applied materials, adhesives and manufacturing processes.
  • \n

Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field and 9+ years experience within a relevant complex engineering environment.\nMay be required to maintain security clearance.
